Letter for Yuletide
Dear creator,
Thank you for signing up for this exchange and creating for me! This is my first time doing Yuletide and I'm very excited!
I've listed my fandom-specific and general likes/DNWs in my sign-up, but here are some prompts/thoughts on each of my requests for your perusal, although of course the prompts and ideas are optional, I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with :)
Request 1:
The Cabots - Cat Sebastian
Requested characters:
Peter Cabot, Caleb Murphy
Requested ship:
Peter Cabot/Caleb Murphy
I first read this book a few months ago in the middle of a stressful family trip and it honestly saved my vacation. I love how cozy it is, I love Peter and Caleb and their relationship, I love that they get a happy ending, I love the road trip - it's become one of my favorite books and if you haven't read it, I highly recommend it! If anyone wants to come yell with me about this book after reveals, hit me up on Tumblr! I love all sorts of things for this pairing, from canon missing scenes to pining to established relationship fluff.
Prompts:
- Peter and Caleb settling into their relationship post-Peter Cabot Gets Lost
- Ernie Walsh introduces Peter and Caleb at one of his parties
- Caleb tells Peter he can't risk them dating post-road trip but still pines - what happens when they meet again six months later?
- The very first time Peter and Caleb say I love you
- 5 times x says I love you without saying it, + 1 time he did
- Emotional hurt/comfort after a difficult meeting with Peter's mother and siblings
- Peter or Caleb crushing on the other person pre-road trip but being very much in denial about it
- More cuddling during the road trip
- Peter and Cabot going on another road trip together post-canon
- Soulmate AU where they are soulmates (leaving it open, play with it as you wish as long as there's a happy ending!)
Request 2:
The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting - K. J. Charles
Requested characters:
Robin Loxleigh, John Hartlebury
Requested ship:
Robin Loxleigh/John Hartlebury
Also likes: Robin Loxleigh & Marianne Loxleigh, Marianne Loxleigh & John Hartlebury, Marianne Loxleigh & Alice Fenwick
This book was another recent discovery for me, and what an amazing one! I adore Robin and Hart, and their unresolved sexual tension was so fun and fascinating from the start, and of course K. J. Charles knocked it out of the part with the sex scenes and the relationship development - I absolutely LOVE the love confession scenes, they're perfect. I didn't request Marianne or Alice for character tags but I would love if they showed up. I would love canon divergence for this ship, or missing scenes exploring the development of their relationship in the book, or post-canon established relationship domesticity/smut.
Prompts:
- The fishpond scene goes differently, ending in kissing/smut
- Outsider POV of Robin and Hart's relationship (Marianne or Alice or others)
- All the mutual pining during their arrangement
- Jealousy while pining during their arrangement or before their arrangement
- Clandestine meetings + smut
- Anything exploring/resolving their UST in the early chapters
- Robin accepts Hart's offer for a more long-term arrangement because he doesn't think Hart will ever return his feelings, with eventual love confessions/happy ending
- Canon AU where Hart does not gamble with Robin in Chapter 9, and Robin and Alice strike a deal for their fake engagement/marriage of convenience but Robin and Hart are still drawn to each other (with happy ending for all eventually)
- Instead of gambling with Robin in Chapter 9, Hart takes him up on his unspoken offer and they spend the night together
- Protective Robin when Hart has to deal with his mother again
- Protective Hart when they run into a unsavory figure from Robin's past
- Hart and Marianne finding common ground and learning to be friends post-canon
- Post canon domesticity and established relationship fluff/smut between Robin and Hart
Request 3:
Summers at Castle Auburn - Sharon Shinn
Requested characters:
Coriel Halsing, Kent Ouvrelet, Elisandra Halsing,
Requested ship:
Coriel Halsing/Kent Ouvrelet
Also likes: Coriel Halsing & Elisandra Halsing, Elisandra Halsing & Kent Ouvrelet, Elisandra Halsing/Roderick
This book has been a favorite of mine since I was a teenager - there are so many things I love about it, from the characters (Corie, Kent and Elisandra especially) to the court politics and the worldbuilding. I have a soft spot for standalone fantasy novels that don't have world-ending stakes and this is such a great example of that. I LOVE the romance between Corie and Kent, I just wish there was more of it - it was so subtle I wasn't sure Corie and Kent would actually end up together the first time I read the book, and I was so over the moon when they did. Elisandra and Corie's relationship is also so well-written, I love how much they love and want to protect each other and I love that Sharon Shinn didn't go the route of making them jealous and resentful of each other just because they were half-sisters who were raised very differently (which is another thing I find super interesting). I also enjoy Elisandra/Roderick but I must admit my favorite romance in the book is definitely Corie/Kent. Anything that explores Corie and Kent's relationship either in canon or post-canon or Elisandra's character with background Corie/Kent would make me very happy :D
Prompts:
- Anything exploring Corie and Kent's relationship over the years (developing friendship and pining Kent, Corie's obliviousness but also her developing feelings), because while I adore the book, the romance was quite low-key until the end and I would love more
- Kent's POV post-Bryan's death to him and Corie's wedding, focusing on his new role as King/his feelings for Corie
- Outsider POV on Corie and Kent from Elisandra and/or Roderick's POV
- Character study of Corie especially regarding her family and her status as a bastard daughter
- Character study of Elisandra focusing on her relationship with Corie, her struggles with Bryan, background Corie/Kent and her falling for Roderick and eventually finding a happy life
- Anything exploring Roderick and Elisandra pining and falling in love (all the angst over their forbidden relationship with background Corie/Kent)
-Post-canon Corie/Kent as they explore actually being together and in love along with the expectations of being King and Queen
- Canon divergence where Kent does not come looking for Corie and they end up together differently with more pining
- Corie hears rumors of Kent's engagement to Megan of Tregonia and this leads her to realize her feelings for Kent (canon divergence), pining + love confessions/getting together
Request 4:
Smythe-Smith Quartet - Julia Quinn
Requested characters:
Marcus Holroyd, Honoria Smythe-Smith
Requested ship:
Marcus Holroyd/Honoria Smythe-Smith
Also likes: Marcus Holroyd & Daniel Smythe-Smith, Honoria Smythe-Smith & Daniel Smythe-Smith
As you can see, my request for this canon focuses on Marcus/Honoria, the main pairing of the series' first book, Just Like Heaven. It's one of Julia Quinn's fluffier books (graphic wound-tending aside), and tends to slip under the radar, but I really love Marcus and Honoria's relationship and this book has become a comfort read for me. The fandom is so tiny that half the fics for Marcus/Honoria have them as a side-ship for Colin/Penelope from the Bridgerton series, which is why I'm happy to have a chance to request them for Yuletide. I'm also interested in Daniel's relationships with Marcus and/or Honoria, although my main focus is Marcus/Honoria, which is why I didn't include Daniel as a selected character in my request, but please feel free to include him! I want all the happy fluff for these two, whether it's them acting completely married even before getting together and being so comfortable together, or pining/finally resolving their feelings, or some good old established relationship fluff!
Prompts:
- Post-engagement fluff and happiness for Marcus and Honoria
- Outsider POV of their relationship (Cecily's remark about Marcus and Honoria being married before the end of the Season is one of my favorite scenes of the novel; would also love to see Honoria's mother's reaction to their engagement/her POV of their relationship. Daniel's POV of their established relationship would also be fun - at first he's taken aback but then he gets it)
- Instead of getting angry, Honoria admits to Marcus after their dance that she read the letter he received from Daniel and they resolve things/admit to their feelings earlier
- 5 times Marcus was in love with Honoria but did not realize + 1 time he knew and told her (could also work for Honoria)
- Anything with them being jealous/pining because that part of the book was very sweet and hilarious-
- Wedding fluff
- Post-canon established relationship fluff, Honoria and Marcus settling into their new family
- Soulmate AU with Marcus and Honoria as soulmates but somehow they only figure it out after falling in love/getting engaged
Request 5:
Longhope Abbey Series - Mia Vincy
Requested characters:
Arabella Larke, Guy Roth
Requested ship:
Arabella Larke/Guy Roth
Arabella and Guy are the main characters of A Dangerous Kind of Lady by Mia Vincy, which is technically the second book in the Longhope Abbey series, but stands alone on its own perfectly well (I haven't read the other books in the series yet) - more information at this link, including content warnings: https://www.miavincy.com/dangerous/. It is also my favorite historical romance of all time. I love the characters and their enemies (with history) to lovers development is absolutely impeccable and so enjoyable to read, and I also love Arabella and Guy as characters on their own as well, and even the parts that I did not love as much as the best parts (the third act misunderstanding is a little contrived, as I mention below for one of the prompts) and yet it still works because of the strength of the writing and the characters. The premise is a little complicated (Arabella Larke wants to arranged a fake engagement with Guy Roth, her childhood nemesis who has recently returned home, in order to escape from a possible betrothal to a dangerous man. Not knowing her real reason, Guy refuses Arabella even while being drawn to her, until she shows up at his house late one night with an even more dangerous proposal...) and it works and I LOVE IT. The sex scenes/build-up to the sex scenes is also brilliant (I have read the hairpin scene in Chapter 19 so many times...) There are no fics/fanworks for this series or pairing on AO3, so I am ravenous for more, and I also want more people to read this book and yell with me about it :D Some of my prompts for this request are quite specific, but feel free to use my likes if that's too intimidating (I don't want to overwhelm you, I just have SO MANY thoughts/wants for this book, hehe). Seriously, anything you want to create that explores these characters and their relationship (taking into account my fandom-specific DNWs) would be absolutely amazing, I'd be over the moon!
Prompts:
- What if Guy had actually agreed to Arabella's fake engagement scheme in Chapter 1?
- Anything exploring jealousy and pining during their fake engagement scheme
- Outsider POV of their relationship from various characters
- Secret kisses during their fake engagement
- Guy and Arabella talking about/bonding over their complicated family dynamics
- Guy defending Arabella over rude comments/rumors during their fake engagement and Arabella overhearing
- What if Arabella had confided in Guy about what Sculthorpe did to her earlier (when they began their fake engagement, or during the afterglow in Chapter 20, or other scenarios)
- The fire happens later in Chapter 23 and Arabella and Guy get to finish their conversation
- There is no fire in Chapter 23 and as a result Guy and Arabella don't NEED to get married - what happens next?
- Missing scenes such as the details of Arabella telling Guy about Sculthorpe
- What if Guy tells Arabella he loves her before her horrible conversation with her father in Chapter 25? (I love the book so so much but this third act misunderstanding is a bit contrived)
- Canon divergence scenario where Arabella does not run away and Guy and Arabella get married as planned, but neither of them has told the other 'I love you' because they're afraid the other person doesn't feel the same - what finally pushes them to confess?
- Post-engagement fluff because they deserve it after all that angst, emotional/hurt comfort over the time they spent apart and discussing their feelings, maybe Arabella spends the night with Guy after they get engaged before returning home, Arabella & Freddie friendship (because I imagine Guy is not the only one who missed Arabella after she broke off their engagement)
- Missing scenes between their final engagement and the wedding
- Post-canon fluff, Arabella and Guy at a ball, dancing + sneaking off together (I really wish we'd gotten a dance scene between them in the book!)
- Post-canon, Arabella and Guy meet Hadrian Bell at a ball and Guy feels irrationally jealous/angry at himself, thinking of what would have happened had he left London as planned in Chapter 21, him and Arabella talk it out, ending in fluff and happiness
- Post-wedding established relationship fluff/smut and domesticity
- Post-canon fluff + pregnancy reveal (it is hinted at in one of the other books in the series that Arabella is with child)
Request 6:
Burnt (2015
Requested characters:
Tony Balerdi, Adam Jones
Requested ship:
Tony Balerdi/Adam Jones
I love this movie and specifically this pairing and I'm thrilled it was nominated for Yuletide! Tony and Adam's relationship is by far the most interesting aspect of the movie for me and I love their dynamic as well as their separate character arcs. I would love to see a happy ending for Adam/Tony, with Adam eventually returning Tony's feelings.
Prompts:
- Post-canon, Adam/Tony fall into a friends with benefits arrangement with eventual mutual pining and happy ending.
- Post-canon, Adam realizes he has feelings for Tony and is completely lost on how to tell him (happy ending).
- Post-canon, Tony is taking dating seriously and Adam is happy for him - after all, all he wants is for Tony to be happy. The fact that he disapproves of every one of Tony's dates and can't stop thinking about kissing Tony is irrelevant.
- Adam actually returns Tony's feelings but is too afraid that saying anything would ruin things, so he pretends that he doesn't - what happens when the truth is revealed (pining, angst, happy ending).
- 5 times Adam was quite sure he's not in love with Tony + 1 time he knows he's in love with Tony and tells him
- Tony and Adam's first kiss (where the feelings are requited)
- Canon AU where Adam reaches out to Tony in New Orleans
- Soulmate AU where they are soulmates but one of them is unaware until years later
- Established relationship fluff/domesticity/smut
Thanks again, and I hope you have a fun Yuletide!
